The Order of the Norman Conquest
1066normanconquest@gmail.com

Hereditary membership is open to all ladies and gentlemen, at least eighteen years of age, of good moral character and reputation who can prove lineal descent from William I (the Conqueror) and/or one of his Companions.

The Order was established to perpetuate the memories, accomplishments, and contributions of the principal figures who took part in the Norman invasion of England known as the Norman Conquest, the primary individuals being William I (the Conqueror), Duke of Normandy, King of England and those Companions who supported William I, by lineal descent, bringing into one society the descendants of the aforementioned individuals.

The Order also collects and secures for preservation the following items: historical/genealogical research, documents, lineages and other significant data related to the events leading to and following the Norman Conquest, which changed history in 11th century Medieval England and Normandy.

Candidates for membership into the Order of the Norman Conquest may select from one of two options;
1)      By proven lineal descent from William I, Duke of Normandy, King of England,
                                                            OR
2)      By proven lineal descent from a known approved Companion who accompanied William I at the Battle of Hastings.

Listed are the known documented Companions who accompanied William I at the Battle of Hastings:  Robert de Beaumont (W); Eustace of Boulogne (W); William of Evreux; Geoffrey of Mortagne; William FitzOsbern; Aimery, IV Vicomte of Thouars -W; Hugh de Montfort (W); Walter Giffard (W); Ralf de Toeni (W); Hugh de Grandmesnil (W); William de Warenne (W); William Malet (W); Turstin FitzRou (D); Engenulf de Laigle (D); Odo, Bishop of Bayeux; Wadard; Vitalis; Geoffrey, Bishop of Coutances; Gulbert d'Auffay; and Robert de Mortain, Earl of Cornwall, brother of the half-blood to William (W).
